SAP recommends you use the SAP Fiori dev-space to develop a UI extension application and deploy it to an on-premise ABAP system1. The SAP Fiori dev-space is a development environment that allows you to create SAP Fiori applications based on various environments, including Cloud Foundry, ABAP Cloud, and SAP S/4HANA. You can use the SAP Fiori dev-space to create an app variant for an existing SAP Fiori elements-based application or freestyle application, and extend the UI with custom controls or logic.You can also use the SAP Fiori dev-space to deploy your UI extension application to an on-premise ABAP system, using the SAPUI5 ABAP Repository service2.

You do not need to use the following dev-spaces to develop a UI extension application and deploy it to an on-premise ABAP system:

• SAP HANA Native Application dev-space: This dev-space allows you to build and deploy native SAP HANA applications or analytical models. You can use this dev-space to create calculation views, expose OData services, and consume data from various sources.However, this dev-space does not support SAP Fiori development or deployment to an on-premise ABAP system3.
• Low-Code-Based Full-Stack Cloud Application dev-space: This dev-space allows you to build and deploy full-stack cloud applications using low-code tools, such as AppGyver and Mendix. You can use this dev-space to create web and mobile apps with drag-and-drop interfaces, visual workflows, and pre-built templates.However, this dev-space does not support SAP Fiori development or deployment to an on-premise ABAP system4.
• SAP Mobile Application dev-space: This dev-space allows you to create and distribute mobile applications using the SAP Mobile Development Kit (MDK). You can use this dev-space to customize, deploy, and manage youriOS and Android apps in the cloud.However, this dev-space does not support SAP Fiori development or deployment to an on-premise ABAP system5.

The file explorer in SAP Business Application Studio is a tool that allows you to view and edit files and folders in your workspace. A workspace is an entity that contains your project’s settings, debug configurations, and task configurations. You can use the file explorer to create, rename, delete, copy, paste, or move files and folders. You can also open files in the editor, preview them in the browser, or compare them with other files. The file explorer shows the files and folders of your current workspace, which can be either a multi-root workspace or a stand-alone folder. You can switch between different workspaces or open new ones from the file explorer. The file explorer does not allow you to view and edit APIs of a project, deploy a project, or share project files with other team members. When you create a CI/CD job for a low-code project, such as an SAP Fiori elements project, you can choose from two options in the Release stage: Deploy to Cloud Foundry or Deploy to Cloud Transport Management Service.
